ESLITE GALLERY is pleased to present Shida KUO’s Solo Exhibition this April. Marking the artist’s first exhibition in Taiwan in six years, it brings together 33 works, spanning ceramic sculpture and two-dimensional pieces. The ceramic sculptures, developed over eight years from 2016 to 2024, reflect the enduring artistic concerns that have defined KUO’s three-decade career, while also revealing an expanded formal and conceptual vocabulary that speaks to the breadth of his artistic creations. KUO’s ceramic sculptures are characterized by a quiet fullness, their understated forms and restrained palette conveying a sense of warmth, delicacy, and tactile richness. His two-dimensional works maintain an umbilical connection to these sculptural forms and are conceived as “flat sculptures” that extend his spatial inquiry onto the plane. This exhibition will also feature 13 newly created two-dimensional works from 2025. In 2024, KUO retired from the Department of Art at NYU. Following this exhibition, he will further pursue the possibilities of two-dimensional art. This transition marks the beginning of a new chapter in his creative journey.
