聯動倫敦新爵士場景，今年剛與英國新生代靈魂女聲 Olivia Dean  巡迴的 KOKOROKO  是近年英國最受矚目的新爵士樂團之一。現今七位成員由小號手兼主唱 Sheila Maurice-Grey、打擊樂手 Onome Edgeworth、長號手 Anoushka Nanguy、鼓手 Ayo Salawu、貝斯手 Duane Atherley、吉他手 Tobi Adenaike-Johnson 及鍵盤手 Yohan Kebede 所共組。2014 年，當倫敦新爵士還沒成為顯學，Sheila 和 Onome 在音樂和英國新世代身份認同的想法上一拍即合，決定組團以現場演出重新連結散居各地的非洲社群，同時表達身為倫敦長大的黑人身分與感受，Kokoroko 因此正式誕生。

Kokoroko 成團初期以現場表演闖出口碑，但 2018 年由 BBC 電台知名主持 Gilles Peterson 發行合輯《We Out Here》裡，收錄他們一首 7 分鐘小品〈Abusey Junction〉在網路口耳相傳下，串流累積超過 7 千萬次！人氣高漲後的他們並不急於推出專輯，先在 2019 年發行同名 EP，超過 2 萬張的唱片銷量證明了他們備受期待的實力。其後於 2022 年問世的首張正式專輯《Could We Be More》更是一鳴驚人；將 Afrobeat、Highlife、爵士、靈魂與倫敦日常的城市氣味揉成一體。其專輯既有西非節奏的脈動，也能聽出 Dilla、Questlove 式的節奏美感，編排細膩得近乎一部電影配樂。該專輯英國各大音樂媒體一致好評，闖進英國專輯榜前 40 名，讓原本被視為獨立小眾樂團的他們，引起主流市場注目，演出邀約接踵而來。

去年發行的第二張專輯《Tuff Times Never Last》是他們目前最完滿的創作自我定義。這張「一切像是自然發生」的作品，完整凝聚這波新英國爵士浪潮其迷人又滿是靈魂的特質；面對社會的壓力與混亂，他們選擇用喜悅、童心與韌性融入音樂來回應世界。專輯大幅拉開樂種光譜，將 80 年代的 Brit-funk、西非 disco、Bossa Nova、neo-soul 等風格一口氣展開，卻依然保留招牌的溫暖銅管、帶空氣感的節奏，以及讓人想舞動卻從不過躁的律動。專輯中沒有任何一首歌照著流行歌常見結構發展，但每首歌曲卻充滿直覺，完全將你吸入 Kokoroko 樂音之中的光亮，並以最成熟的姿態回答「我們是誰」。
