- **Event Description**: While colonization influenced Indigenous education, it never stopped Native peoples from educating one another on their own terms. Our guest speaker for the Lunch and Learn series coming this April is Dr. Julie L. Reed.

Understanding ways in which Cherokees taught and learned from each other over the course of more than four centuries takes a heroine’s journey. Instead of primarily taking the perspective of Native education through Indian boarding and reservation schools established in the 19th and 20th centuries, Reed’s “Land, Language, And Women: A Cherokee and American Educational History” reclaims Cherokee perspectives that reveal surprising continuity amid powerful change. 

You can attend this lecture from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the NSU Jazz Lab, located at 315 N. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah. A light lunch is provided — you may also bring your own lunch to this event.
