Today, the waterfront is one of Tacoma's crown jewels. But not long ago, it was considered one of the most polluted waterways in the nation. How did we get here? What industries shaped Tacoma? What was lost? What was restored? And what can the Foss Waterway teach us about tackling today's environmental challenges?
This guided tour will take us through Tacoma's gritty past, remarkable cleanup, and evolving future as we explore the waterfront together. Along the way you'll hear stories of industry, pollution, restoration, bridges, ships, and the people who helped transform the waterway from an environmental cautionary tale into a comeback story.
