Anna Iachino, from Montreal, Canada, of Italian descent, is the songwriter, vocalist, rapper, poet, dancer, and storyteller. Arnold Ludvig from the Faroe Islands is the composer, arranger, and award-winning bassist. MonkeyRat delivers multi-genre music rooted mainly in Funk. The band was formed in Copenhagen with award-winning guitarist, Alain Apaloo from Togo and superb Danish drummer Jens Stoklund. MonkeyRat released their 2010 debut album, "Fuck The Jante Law", followed by "Sunshine" in 2012.
In 2016, four funky digital singles were released with The Hentze Horns blasting with "Ba Da Boom Boom Bass". "Get into The Light", MonkeyRat's hip-hop/gospel collaboration with Debbie Cameron, Deborah Herbert, and Joanita Zachariasen, was released in 2018. In 2020, MonkeyRat released their funk/pop banger, "Good Morning Reykjavík", Anna's first co-composed single and "U Gotta Love Being U," MonkeyRat's pop/soul single and Anna's first co-written song with Hans Andrias. Jacobsen and BEINIR. In 2022, MonkeyRat released "The Child" ft. Anna Sofía Skoradal; MonkeyRat's neo-soul single and epic EP, "Isolation", a poetry/psychedelic rock track composed by Anna.
In 2024, MonkeyRat with the Hentze Horns started the year with their funky smash hit single & funny YouTube video, "Niels Uni Dam". On May 10th, MonkeyRat screeched into overdrive to the psychedelic rock sounds of 1969, with two spectacular guitar solos by Alain Apaloo on “What A Crazy World”. On June 14th, MonkeyRat delved into African funky beats and vocals with Ayi Solomon, a featured guest rapper, dancer, & percussionist extraordinaire, on “Where’s The Peace?”
This evening at Blábar, MonkeyRat will perform alongside award-winning Faroese musicians and guest singer roWan, who is featured on MonkeyRat's first and second albums, and will perform their hit singles, "Pastel Shades", "Amsterdam", and "Missing U".
