Collins Block Memorial 2026
Tuesday, February 3, 2026 marks the 87th anniversary of the 1939 Collins Block Fire in downtown Syracuse, where nine Syracuse Firefighters tragically lost their lives while battling the fire.
Please join City of Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens, Fire Chief Michael Monds, members of the Syracuse Fire Department—past and present—and the families and friends of our fallen as we gather to honor the 46 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
On this solemn day, the City of Syracuse will also formally honor Firefighter Ethan C. Cunningham, recognizing his passing on February 6, 2017, as an official City of Syracuse Line of Duty Death.
The ceremony will also include the swearing-in of:
• First Deputy Chief Elton Davis
• Executive Deputy Chief Lucas Tortarella
• 24 newly hired firefighters
