- **Event Description**: From 1998 through 2001, catching Vancouver pop punk groundbreakers Gob in Cape Breton was an every year occurrence that almost acted as a right of passage in the DIY music scene. From DIY all ages shows at St. Anne’s Parish Hall and The Locus in Glace Bay to larger showings headlining Gobblefest 7 and The Savoy Theatre, Gob brought a sound and energy that would set the stage for some of Canada’s most iconic artists to flourish: Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, Simple Plan.

This July, Gob returns to Cape Breton for the first time since 2001 when they take to The Capri Cabaret stage in Sydney. One of only three dates on their East Coast Summer run, the band will run through a set spanning their discography of seven albums and over 30 years. Despite their longevity, the band has not slowed one bit, with recent years seeing the group supporting Sum 41 on their 2025 “Tour of the Setting Sun” farewell tour, headlining their first ever European tour in Summer 2025, as well as performing this Summer at Vans Warped Tour and alongside The Offspring at Rock the River.

You wouldn't be hard pressed to come up with a lengthy list of bands that have borrowed from GOB over the past 30 years. From their rise to relevance with 1995's "Too Late, No Friends" and the iconic singles "Soda" and "You're Too Cool" to their 2000s crossover mainstream hits "I Hear You Calling," "Give Up the Grudge," and "Oh! Ellin," Gob's anthemic pop punk tunes have been part of the soundtrack to every millenial Canadian punk's unbringing while appearing on MuchMusic's Big Shiny Tunes, EA's Madden NFL and NHL series, and movies such as American Wedding.

Tickets for this event are on sale now at http://tickets.openscene.live for $45 plus taxes and fees. Admission is restricted to those 19+, with IDs required for entry. Doors will open at 7PM with music to follow shortly after from local hardcore punk outfit The Shithawks. The Capri Cabaret is located at 235 Charlotte Street in Sydney, and is accessible only by stairs to the second floor space.
