One dress. Four countries. An audience of billions.
The Princess of England is getting married: across the globe, designers and artisans race against time to create a wedding gown fit for history. Under a shroud of secrecy, a Parisian fashion house designs the gown; in Normandy, lacemakers of Alençon craft its delicate flourishes; in Mumbai, embroiderers weave shimmering motifs.
Through intertwining stories, LACRIMA reveals the hidden human cost stitched into every seam. Director and playwright Caroline Guiela Nguyen combines meticulous research, theatrical intimacy and cinematic scale in this ambitious production. Split-screen staging, shifting sets and close-up video capture conjure the feel of a live film, drawing audiences deep into the urgency and emotional stakes of the story.
Performed in French, Tamil, English and sign language, with surtitles, LACRIMA weaves themes of globalisation, labour and beauty into a gripping and deeply human narrative.
Experience a global theatre event: over three absorbing hours, LACRIMA reveals the invisible threads connecting us all – and offers you a seat inside a landmark of contemporary theatre.
“A monumental, magnetic production.”

“Caroline Guiela Nguyen's great talent is to point out dilemmas that escape binary reasoning. Without judgment, without moralizing, she leaves the audience free to think.”
