The event will take place on July 1st, from 4-10:30 p.m. at Open Hearth Park. Action Zone -The event includes an Action Zone, full of fun activities for all! The Action Zone will include live performances from: Colleen Power's "For Little Ones” (at 4:15pm) - For her 2010 album, Colleen Power leaned hard on her life as a mother of two to create something charming and enjoyable for the little ones – AND the ones who love them! Alongside award winning Newfoundland bluegrass group The Crooked Stovepipe, Colleen and the band assembled an acclaimed mix of children’s favourites, original tunes, and songs by Tommy Sands, Ron Hynes, and others that Kidzmusik.com called, “a gentle feel-good album filled with charm, love and splendid musical integrity. The mixture of traditional and original songs - some in French - evokes all that is right about music for family listeners - play this one again.” Mighty Mike Strongman Show (at 5pm & 7:15pm) - Step Right Up! Witness Mighty Mike juggle bowling balls as if light as a feather, tear packs of cards, and bend pounds of metal... while wearing a 1920s style bathing suit. Ready for a new spin on a classic tradition? This is a strongman show like you've never seen before! Duncan Wells and the Apple in a Tree Band (at 6pm) - Duncan Wells is an award winning playwright, songwriter and recording artist that has captured the hearts and minds of generations of Cape Breton children for more than 30 years. His songs, such as “The Kayak Song,” “Adios Amigo,” and “Shine” are as ingrained on the musical fabric of the island as those of the Rankins, Rita MacNeil, and Gordie Sampson – all of whom have performed Duncan’s songs themselves! With the Apple in a Tree Band, Duncan won the first ever Children’s Recording of the Year Award at the 1996 ECMAs, toured throughout the Maritimes, and have been the heart of near every community event and celebration in Cape Breton. From grandparents to parents to children, it’s truly a show for the whole family when Duncan and the Apple in a Tree Band are around. Songwriter’s Picnic & Main Stage The Canada Day celebration will feature several live performances on the Songwriter’s Picnic Stage and the Main Stage. The Songwriters picnic begins at 4:30 p.m. and includes performances from: Shawnee Paul & Marybeth Carty (at 4:30pm) - From early childhood, Shawnee Paul became interested in playing the fiddle as she watched her grandfather practice and perform. By the time she turned seven, she had begun taking fiddle lessons and a lifelong relationship with the bow and strings was born. As an educator in elementary and middle school, Shawnee has been inspired to create music that combines her music education, traditional Celtic styles, and Mi’kmaq language and culture. This has brought her to stages at Celtic Colours and ECMA 2026 as well as performing alongside artists such as Morgan Toney, Alan Syliboy and the Thundermakers, and Bradley Murphy.
