Our combined diploma is specifically designed for those who are looking to use massage professionally and aim to develop advanced Sports and Remedial Massage techniques and injury management.

This qualification is independently accredited by the the Federation of Holistic Therapists.

Level 3 Only Massage Therapy Certificate

Our Level 3 certificate offers a detailed introduction to massage therapy which will enable you to provide a full-body massage treatment, along with some sports massage techniques.

Level 4 Only Sports Massage Certificate

Our Level 4 only course is designed as a add on to qualified Level 3 massage therapists who would like to extend their advanced skills in sports and remedial massage and injury management.

Level 3: 18th - 20th May and 22nd - 24th June 2018

Level 4: 20th - 22nd July and 7th - 9th September 2018

Teaching Methods

Courses are taught using a hands-on approach, therefore you will be providing massage therapy throughout the teaching days, whilst receiving ongoing input from the tutor.

You will work with different members of the group throughout the weeks to acquire experience massaging different body types and the different ways people hold muscle tension.
This will provide experience in adjusting the depth of massage to fit different needs. .


Course Tutor:

Taught by Dawn Morse BSc, PGCE, MSc who has a Masters Degree in Sports and Health Sciences, is a qualified teacher, Sports Massage Therapist and Sports Scientist.

Dawn has been working within the field of Sports Massage Therapy and Sports Science for over fifteen years and has over nine years of experience as a Sports Science and Therapy Lecturer and Programme Leader for the University of Bath Sports Therapy Foundation Degree. Dawn has ran a Sports Massage Therapy Clinic for many years and is now an associate lecturer for the Open University and the proprietor of Core Elements Training.


Massage Course Outline:

The Sports Massage Therapy Diploma and Certificate is taught over two or four long weekends depending on the course selected.
Independent reading and massage practise is also required throughout the course along side the training days.

Due to the nature of massage therapy, a large proportion of the course is practical-based allowing you to gain as much hands-on practice and confidence as possible.

Level 3 Sports Massage Certificate

Techniques include:
Effleurage
Petrissage
Tapotement
Friction technique
PNF stretching
Introduction to scapula release
Introduction to ITB release
Anatomy and Physiology for massage therapy


Level 4 Sports & Remedial Massage Diploma

Techniques include:
Soft Tissue Release (STR)
Myofascial Release techniques
Neuro Muscular Techniques (NMT)
Trigger pointing
Positional release
Muscle Energy Techniques (MET)
Deep frictions
Theromodalities (Hot & Cold therapy)
PNF stretching
Introduction to Kinesiology taping

Other topics include:

Anatomy and physiology of the body systems
Injury process and considerations for treatment
The consultation process
Postural assessment including examination and assessment for injury
Treatment design and management
Health and safety,
Code of conduct

Our Level 3, Level 4 and Combined Level 3 and 4 Sports and Remedial Massage Diploma training courses, are independently accredited by the Federation of Holistic Therapists.

Course graduates can join either the FHT or the STA and gain insurance to practise,
via the FHT , STA or directly with Balens.

Course graduates are also entitled to 10% off any of out additional CPD courses in Kinesiology Taping, Dry Cupping and our Level 5 CPD courses in Electrotherapy Therapy and Manual Therapy.
