Join Inland Seas Education Association for a hands-on exploration of the Vernal Pools at Leo Creek Preserve! As the snow melts and spring rains arrive, temporary "ephemeral" wetlands appear in our forests, sparking a flurry of life. These fish-free havens are essential breeding grounds for wood frogs, spotted salamanders, and fairy shrimp.

Come out and discover the unique ecology of these hidden gems. We’ll learn how to identify vernal pool species, understand why these habitats are so critical to our Great Lakes ecosystem, and see what’s currently "waking up" in the preserve.


What to bring:
🥾 Boots are highly recommended! Trails can be muddy, and we’ll be getting close to the water’s edge.
🧥 Dress for the weather (we’ll be outside for the duration).
📷 A camera or binoculars to capture the early signs of spring.
