Expect muskets, authentic costume & the odd Newcastle-centric jibe!About this EventA key period in the development of Sunderland was in the middle 17th Century during the Civil War on War of Three Kingdoms. Parliamentary Sunderland gained in importance at a cost to Royalist Newcastle. John Lilburne, one of the greatest figures of the century, came from Southwick! A number of battles occurred in the area as well. Sean and Lorrain McCartney will give a slide show about this colourful and critical period. They will be dressed in 17th Century styles and bring along items such as (unloaded) muskets for your to handle. But we will also hear about home life in the period from Lorrain, and about the impact of the wars on Sunderland from Sean. Whichever side you support do come along and also enjoy our New Model Scones and our Sealed Knot Tea!Schedule:1pm: Arrive and grab a seat, coffee/tea and scones will be available at the coffee bar.1:30pm: Lecture begins.Registration and Cost:- Attendance to these lectures is free but we encourage you to make a donation if you're able. Money raised will go towards future 17Nineteen Society events and to the Churches Conservation Trust towards the management and upkeep of Sunderland’s wonderful Georgian treasure.Location:Holy Trinity Sunderland is conveniently located close to the Donnison School and Sunderland Maritime Heritage Museum for avid history fans to make the most of their visit.
