- **Event Description**: For the perfect Valentine's keepsake – join us for a delightful day of learning to fold tricky Victorian Puzzle books. Designed by upper-class women in the late 18th century, these personal keepsakes fold with a secret inner compartment.In this workshop, Linda Illumanardi, will guide us as we fill our puzzle creations with California native leaves and wild flowers, then immerse the piece into a bubbling pot of natural dye. Experimenting with various types and weights, we will design with two different papers and sizes to see the MAGIC that happens after the reveal!Time permitting, this botanical experience may include a short walk through the Theodore Payne Foundation's Demonstration Gardens to help us identify native and non-native dye plants utilized by our resident artist. We recommend bringing comfortable shoes and clothes that can get messy.This workshop is suitable for all skill levels and taking notes is welcomed.Supplies: A variety of gathered printing materials will be provided. Participants are asked to bring their own scissors and a ruler. Guests are also welcome to bring any California native leaves or wildflowers from their own garden they'd like to use.Linda Illumanardi is a painter (MA in Painting/Modernism & Visual Studies/Education, 1996)) seeking balance of content and form. Multimedia experience include handmade books, sacred vessels, monoprints, dry point etching, pottery, and collagraph plates. She was commissioned to create a limited edition publication at Otis College in 2001 and in 2010 embarked onto Botanical Printing, mindfully choosing leaves to sample for pigment and tannin content that is forced onto paper, fabric, and leather via heat and contact.This creative process eventually led to her representing the United States for the past two years at the Global Botanical Printing event, having curated an international, botanically printed, peace flag exhibition that was displayed from the Los Angeles County library in Altadena (2020) to Tasmania, Australia (2021) and onto Indonesia (2022).Her most recent teaching credits include a year-long curriculum on Botanical Printing and Natural Dyeing through the Picerne Family Foundation Grant.Connect:https://www.instagram.com/linda.illumanardiRefund Policy: If you are feeling sick or experiencing covid-19 symptons we urge you to stay home.
