Auditions for “Streetcar Named Desire,” SLT’s spring production, will be held Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 1 and 2, 6:30-8:30 p.m., in the classroom, 14 Mood Ave. This beloved drama, written by Tennessee Williams and directed by SLT Executive/Artistic Director Heather Turner, will hit the stage Feb. 26. .
Auditions will consist of cold readings. You may prepare a monologue if you wish, but it is not required.
Character Descriptions:
Blanche DuBois (Female, 30s–40s)
A fragile, fading Southern belle who clings desperately to the illusions of her past. Poetic, manipulative, and vulnerable. Requires emotional range and nuance.
Stella Kowalski (Female, 20s–30s)
Blanche’s younger sister, practical and passionate. Torn between loyalty to her sister and love for her husband.
Stanley Kowalski (Male, 20s–40s)
Stella’s husband — rough, magnetic, and primal. A man of working-class strength and raw energy. Must exude physicality and presence.
Harold “Mitch” Mitchell (Male, 30s–40s)
Stanley’s friend, a kind and decent man who still lives with his mother. He develops feelings for Blanche and represents the hope of stability in her chaotic world.
Eunice Hubbell (Female, 30s–50s)
The Kowalskis’ upstairs neighbor. Blunt, humorous, and streetwise. A survivor who serves as both foil and ally to Stella.
Steve Hubbell (Male, 30s–50s)
Eunice’s husband, a poker buddy of Stanley’s. Good-natured but rough around the edges.
Pablo Gonzales (Male, 20s–40s)
Another of Stanley’s poker friends. Easygoing and friendly; some Spanish accent preferred.
The Young Collector (Male, late teens–early 20s)
A polite, shy young man collecting for the paper. A brief but symbolic encounter with Blanche.
The Doctor (Male, any age)
Calm, compassionate professional who appears at the play’s end.
The Nurse (Female, any age)
Firm, efficient, and authoritative in Blanche’s final scene.
Minor/Ensemble roles: Neighbors, Mexican Woman, voices, and other supporting parts may be double-cast.
