This 16-piece Big Band was formed in 2007 and features some of the finest jazz musicians in South Wales.
The Capital City Jazz Orchestra have been finalists in S4C’s Band Cymru competition and have also appeared at the Swansea International Jazz Festival and Brecon Jazz Festival.
The band have hosted the Jazz Prom at the Welsh Proms with singers such as Matt Ford, Clare Teal, Claire Martin and Lance Ellington. In addition, their regular series of “Jazz on the Level” concerts at St Davids Hall have seen them work with a huge roster of international jazz talent, including Bobby Shew, Alan Barnes, Mark Nightingale and Tim Garland.
Soloist Elijah Jefferey
Elijah Jeffery is a Hampshire-born jazz vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist. From an early age, Elijah developed a passion for musical theatre and the Great American Songbook, taking inspiration from many of the great vocalists and lyricists of the 20th Century. A Jazz graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Elijah has established himself as an up-and-coming artist in Wales and the South West, collaborating with the likes of Claire Martin OBE, Ian Shaw and Alex Garnett.
Elijah released his debut EP, ‘One of Her Clowns’ in June 2023, marking his first foray into writing original music. Fusing a lifelong love of jazz with singer-songwriter and folk sensibilities, ‘One of Her Clowns’ weaves bittersweet tales of love lost and found through “poetic and intelligent lyricis[m]” (The Jazz Mann).
In 2025, Jeffery released a duo album with pianist Eddie Gripper, straddling the genres of progressive pop, indie folk, and alternative jazz, and love and darkness in “an enthralling and absorbing way” (All About Jazz). The release was celebrated with two UK tours, showcasing the duo’s signature “wit and warmth” in a live setting (TJM).
