As tempting as it may be to focus on reaching a destination, we challenge ourselves instead to simply be present and let the current carry us for a while. For some, we realize the float begins long before we ever reach the water. It begins the morning we depart our homes. It begins in the traffic, the gas station stops, and the last-minute trip to the grocery store for those few forgotten items. Then we realize the float began even earlier than that. It began when we started packing. When we looked ahead at our week and made room for rest. When we marked our calendars months in advance and made a commitment to step away from the busyness of life. And perhaps, if we're paying attention, we discover that the float never really ends. As we return to the river year after year, we are reminded of the importance of slowing down. Of creating space. Of allowing ourselves to move with life rather than constantly pushing against it. The river teaches us something simple: Not every moment needs to be optimized. Not every destination needs to be rushed. Not every hour needs to be filled. Sometimes it is enough to simply flow. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ You are invited to join us for a weekend of rest, relaxation, and reconnection. We'll be camping at Meramec State Park, just about an hour west of St. Louis. Our group campsite has already been reserved and paid for, this is a 50-person camp site, so all you need to do is show up. There is no cost to attend, though donations toward the campsite are always appreciated. This gathering is family-friendly, alcohol-free, and open to everyone. Children are welcome, and for many of them, this will be one last adventure in nature before the school year begins. Whether you're planning to stay the entire weekend or just join us for part of it, we'd love to have you there. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ?️ Weekend Highlights Thursday, August 6 • Arrive and set up camp • Meet and greet • Campfire and conversation Friday, August 7 – Fisher Cave Adventure ? We'll be exploring Fisher Cave together. Cave tours must be reserved separately through Missouri State Parks. Available tour times: • 9:30 AM • 11:30 AM • 1:00 PM • 3:00 PM We'll coordinate a tour time closer to the event based on interest. The remainder of the day is open for hiking, fishing, swimming, exploring the park, or simply relaxing around camp. Saturday, August 8 – Float Trip ? The main event! Canoes, kayaks, and rafts are available through Meramec Park. Please reserve your float as soon as possible. Weekend reservations do fill up. • Approximately 5 miles • Typically 2–4 hours • Rentals include shuttle transportation, paddles, and life jackets Each person or family is responsible for making their own float reservation. Evening Programs & Activities Meramec State Park frequently hosts ranger-led programs, nature talks, demonstrations, and other family-friendly activities throughout the summer. As the park releases its schedule, we'll share any evening programs that may be of interest to the group.
