- **Event Description**: New date! The Sullivan-Sorrento Historical Society invites the public to "A Centennial Celebration of the Singing Bridge" on Saturday, August 15, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sorrento-Sullivan Recreation Center.
The evening will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Singing Bridge through stories, poetry, music, and personal recollections from individuals whose families and creative work have been closely connected to the bridge over the past century.
Bob Foss will speak about his family's generations-long involvement with the bridge, including his great-grandfather, Capt. Orlando Foss, who headed the Bridge Committee.
Linda Carter will read from her father's boyhood recollections of the bridge's construction. Dorothy Preble Bennett, who became a published author at the age of 94, will read her poem, Saga of the Singing Bridge. Award-winning poet Bea Gates will read the poem that inspired her libretto for the 2005 Singing Bridge opera, and the opera's composer, Anna Dembska, has provided excerpts from the work for us to hear.
Bridge-themed artwork by the Farmstead Artists will be available for purchase, along with other bridge memorabilia. 
The program is free and open to the public. The Historical Society welcomes community members and visitors alike to celebrate one of Downeast Maine's most recognizable landmarks and the stories of the people who built, remembered, and were inspired by it.
