Event Overview
The Ismaili Council for the Southwestern USA invites you to an unforgettable evening with Falsa, a genre-blurring Sufi music collective rooted in the ecstatic poetry of 14th-century mystics like Amir Khusrao—the very foundation of the Qawwali tradition. Carrying this sacred lineage across centuries and cultures, Falsa crafts immersive soundscapes where spiritual longing meets transcultural improvisation.
Based in New York City, the ensemble weaves Sufi vocals, Carnatic violin, tabla, harmonium, Bass VI, and drums into a deeply felt musical journey. Each performance becomes a shared ritual—blending rhythm, surrender, and presence in spaces where sound transforms into sanctuary.
Falsa takes its name from the small, tart South Asian berry that inspired vocalist Umer Piracha after a decade away from his homeland—an unexpected symbol of reunion, memory, and return. From that moment arose a collective devoted to exploring the sacred, the personal, and the beautifully in-between.
In Falsa’s sound, centuries of devotional tradition meet the living stories of diaspora. This is more than a concert—it’s a practice of presence, an invitation into wholeness.
