The book to be read is Bird Builds a Nest: A First Science Storybook by Martin Jenkins. It's time for Bird to build her nest. Follow as she pulls a worm out of the ground, lifts some twigs that are just the right size, and pushes the twigs into place. Uh-oh - one of the twigs falls to the ground! But, after a day of hard work, Bird's nest is ready and waiting. Can you guess what it's waiting for? Best for children grades K-3. 

After the story, children may look at examples of different nests, complete a craft project to take home, and visit the Nature Nook at the farmhouse. If there is still time and energy children and their caregivers may walk the George Lewis Memorial Trail loop to see if they spy any nests along the way.
