Timo Claus und Kaspar Ehrhardt geben Einblicke, inwiefern sich das Weiterbauen zu einer systemischen, integrativen Praxis zwischen Handwerk und Ingenieurbau entwickelt – und damit einen skalierbaren Ansatz für zukünftige Bauaufgaben darstellt.Die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Bauen im Bestand stellt den Holzbau vor besondere Herausforderungen – insbesondere dort, wo historische Substanz mit einem hohen Vorfertigungsgrad konstruktiv weiterentwickelt werden muss. Das Projekt Historische Oberamteistraße Reutlingen zeigt, wie sich diese Aufgabe in eine planerische Chance übersetzen lässt: Eine der ältesten Fachwerkhäuserzeilen Süddeutschlands wird saniert und durch einen präzise entwickelten Neubau ergänzt.Im Spannungsfeld von Zimmererhandwerk und Holz-Ingenieurbau sowie der Transformation der Fachwerkkonstruktion in ein räumliches Tragwerk wird der Bestand digital erfasst und parametrisch weitergedacht. Der Neubau – als Prothese und adaptives System – nimmt minimale Toleranzen auf und schreibt sich wie ein maßgefertigtes Möbelstück passgenau in die bestehende Struktur ein. Die regelbasierte Logik des traditionellen Holzbaus wird dabei in algorithmische Planungs- und Fertigungsprozesse überführt. Holz fungiert als strategisches Material – CO₂-Speicher, nachwachsender Rohstoff und Träger hoher Vorfertigung. Parametrische Methoden koppeln Geometrie, Tragwerk und Fertigung direkt und ermöglichen so präzise, ressourcenschonende Eingriffe im Bestand.Renan Prandini vom Institut für Tragkonstruktionen und Konstruktives Entwerfen (ITKE) wird einen Vortrag über Berechnungsmethoden für den Holzbau unter Verwendung von Beaver halten und UniversalTimberSlab vorstellen, ein Tragwerkssystem, das Prinzipien der Anisotropie und der optimalen Ausrichtung auf punktgestützte Holz- und Holz-Verbunddecken anwendet. Durch die Möglichkeit unregelmäßiger Stützraster erweitert das System die Bandbreite der Entwurfsmöglichkeiten für mehrgeschossigen Holzbau.L’ignite ExkursionErgänzend zu den Vorträgen bieten wir vor dem Holzbau-Stammtisch eine Exkursion nach Reutlingen an. Dort besichtigen wir den Neubau des Heimatmuseums Reutlingen in der Oberamteistraße, für dessen Tragwerksplanung str.ucture verantwortlich zeichnet. Timo Claus und Kaspar Ehrhardt von str.ucture, gibt uns eine Führung und damit einen exklusiven Einblick in den Neubau, der noch nicht offiziell eröffnet wurde. Timo Claus and Kaspar Ehrhardt offer insights into how adaptive reuse is evolving into a systemic, integrative practice that bridges the gap between craftsmanship and civil engineering – and thus represents a scalable approach for future construction projects.Dealing with building in existing contexts poses particular challenges for timber construction – especially where historic structures must be structurally developed with a high degree of prefabrication. The Historic Oberamteistraße Reutlingen project demonstrates how this challenge can be transformed into a planning opportunity: one of the oldest rows of half-timbered houses in southern Germany is being renovated and complemented by a precisely designed new building.At the intersection of carpentry and timber engineering, as well as the transformation of the half-timbered structure into a spatial load-bearing framework, the existing building is digitally documented and parametrically reimagined. The new building – functioning as a prosthesis and an adaptive system – accounts for minimal tolerances and fits seamlessly into the existing structure like a custom-made piece of furniture. The rule-based logic of traditional timber construction is thereby translated into algorithmic planning and manufacturing processes. Wood functions as a strategic material – a CO₂ sink, a renewable resource, and a medium for high levels of prefabrication. Parametric methods directly link geometry, structural framework, and manufacturing, thereby enabling precise, resource-efficient interventions in the existing structure.Renan Prandini from the Institute of Building Structures and Structural Design (ITKE) will give a talk on computational methods for timber engineering using Beaver and introduces the UniversalTimberSlab, a structural system that applies principles of anisotropy and optimal orientation to point-supported timber and timber-composite slabs.
