1967 trafen zwei Antipoden des westdeutschen Jazz in einem TV-Studio aufeinander: Klaus Doldinger mit seinem Quartett und Peter Brötzmann und seine Band. Sie illustrierten musikalisch die Diskussion einer Herrenrunde von Jazzkritikern und Plattenproduzenten, das sich über die neue Musik des Free Jazz zu verständigen versuchte. 

Mansplaining im Stil der Zeit, Expertisen werden abgegeben, es wird in Schlips und Kragen geraucht. Auch die Musiker werden befragt, ein deutlich angefressener Doldinger beharrt darauf, daß der normale Jazz noch nicht am Ende sei, Brötzmann will weg von Klischees und will eine Aufgabe gegenüber der Gesellschaft erfüllen. Die Montagegruppe stellt die Musiker und Diskussionsteilnehmer vor und stellt sie in den Kontext ihrer Zeit.

Die kostenlose Veranstaltungsreihe "Montage", die sich seit 20 Jahren mit Populärkultur und Themen aus Politik und Gesellschaft beschäftigt, findet in der Regel seit 2015 im Theater Rampe statt. Die Macher*innen Piltz, Schäfer & Vogel sind für das Programm verantwortlich.
