After 6+ years, 1,200+ miles, countless yellow blazes, road walks, muddy shoes, wrong turns, spider webs, laughs, tears, and more than a few “whose idea was this?” moments, my Ice Age Trail journey is finally coming to an end.

And because apparently just finishing 1,200+ miles isn’t quite complicated enough, I’ve decided to make my final day a little extra. ?

On September 26, I’m planning to visit BOTH the Western Terminus at St. Croix and the Eastern Terminus at Potawatomi State Park in the SAME DAY, officially ending my journey at the Eastern Terminus.

? My anticipated finish time at Potawatomi is approximately 3:00 PM.

That time is definitely a little “trail flexible.” ? There are a few unknowns involved with starting at St. Croix and traveling all the way across Wisconsin that day, so 3:00 PM is our best estimate. I’ll keep everyone updated as the day unfolds so you’ll know when I’m getting close.

And I would absolutely LOVE to have you there.

If you’ve hiked a mile—or many miles—with me, shuttled me, encouraged me, followed my adventures, laughed at my trail stories, checked in on me, cheered from afar, or supported this crazy journey in any way, you are part of this story. Whether your footprints were beside mine on the trail or your encouragement came through a screen, you helped me keep moving forward.

But there’s one part of this finish that will make the day especially meaningful.

My dad and mom are coming from the UK, and will walk the final mile with me.

In so many ways, my dad has already hiked the whole trail with me. For six years, my parents have virtually followed the miles, the photos, the adventures, the hard days and the beautiful ones from across the ocean. To have them here—and to have my dad beside me for those final steps—is something I know I will never forget.  

Six years ago, I started walking. Somewhere along the way, this became about so much more than miles.

This trail has challenged me, strengthened me, healed me, humbled me and introduced me to some truly wonderful people. It gave me space to think, to breathe, to laugh, to cry, and sometimes just to put one foot in front of the other.

And on September 26, I finally get to follow that last yellow blaze.

I have a feeling there will be laughter.
There will definitely be tears.
There will probably be dirty hiking shoes.

And knowing me, there’s at least a reasonable chance I’ll get hit in the head by one final acorn. ?

But most of all, there will be gratitude.

If you have been part of these 1,200+ miles in any way, I would be so honored to have you there as I take the last few steps and close out one incredible chapter. Come share your favorite memory if you hiked with me or favorite story.
