Our day begins at the Visitor Center, where we'll gather, fill water bottles, and prepare for a private ranger-guided Scenic Vista Van Tour. During this exclusive 90-minute backcountry experience, participants will travel deep into the preserve's bison range while learning about the history, ecology, and significance of the remaining tallgrass prairie.

After the van tour, we'll stretch our legs on the Southwind Nature Trail, enjoying a leisurely walk through rolling prairie landscapes in search of peak fall blooms, including Maximilian Sunflowers, Goldenrod, and Pitcher Sage. Along the way, we'll take time to appreciate the sweeping vistas, changing colors, and quiet beauty of the season.

Following our hike, we'll gather on the shaded grounds of the historic ranch headquarters for a relaxed bring-your-own picnic lunch. This is an opportunity to slow down, share stories, build friendships, and enjoy the company of fellow outdoor-minded women.

For those interested, the day concludes with an optional ice cream social at Braum's in Emporia. Located directly along the route back toward Kansas City, it's the perfect chance to continue conversations over a scoop of ice cream before heading home.

This event is designed to foster connection, community, and appreciation for one of America's last remaining tallgrass prairie landscapes while enjoying the beauty of fall in the Flint Hills.

Open to women aged 18+. All participants must sign a 2026 Liability Waiver, located on our website to attend. Event is free (self pay ice cream is optional), but pre-registration is required.
