'In his own Words' - What Welford was like in the early 1900's

This talk will be given by Brad Plimmer, archivist of the history society. Back in 1974, a BBC reporter called Michael Gandon came to Welford on Avon to interview a local man named Alec Bryan. Alec, who at the time was in his mid sixties, was well known in Welford having lived in the village all his life. There wasn't much he didn't know about the local history of Welford and the surrounding areas. He talked for almost half an hour about life in the village when he himself was a boy and then a young man from approx 1910 to 1925. As a History Society, we were unaware of this interview until two years ago, when Mike Gandon contacted us, and offered to share the transcript and the audio recording with us. The meeting will start with a brief overview of Alec's life and will be followed by an opportunity to listen to the unique audio recording.
