After his acclaimed success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival — where his piece Inlet was nominated for “The List – Best Fringe Dance, Circus & Physical Theatre Show” — choreographer Saeed Hani presents the German premiere of his new project "Unveiling the Abstract" on November 14 and 15 at Mierscher Theater in Mersch, Luxembourg.
A dance piece about disappearance and remembrance — about the body as a vessel of history, desire, and resistance. Between light and shadow unfolds a fragmentary journey through Arab identity, queer longing, and cultural heritage.
A body moves through shifting light — never fully visible, never fully hidden — caught in the in-between space of memory and dream. Faded colors whisper beneath the skin, telling of a wild, sensual past that feels more dreamt than lived. What once pulsed now fades: a culture sinks into gray, worn down by time and silence.
In this space, where skin meets shadow, where Dalí’s visions merge into Goya’s screams, we encounter emotions long buried but never entirely gone. Born of ancient wisdom and the restlessness of the present, this is not a story but a revelation — a question, not an answer.
A fragment of Arab memory, interwoven with longing, queerness, and resistance. And at its center, Marcus Aurelius calls out to us: “The soul remains strong when it can retreat into itself.” The meaning may not reveal itself — yet whoever lingers may remember how color once felt.
