🌅🔋Have you heard of organic solar cells? 🌞

Come to this talk to learn about the use of solar cells in the world, how electrical current is generated from the Sun, and get an introduction to a new, greener, and colorful technology of solar cells: the organic solar cells based on carbon-based materials.
Before GPS satellites and digital charts guided ships across the oceans, sailors relied on the oldest navigation tool of all — the sky. Astronomical navigation is both an art and a science: a blend of precision, patience, and wonder. It connects us to the great explorers who once charted unknown seas, guided only by the same stars that shine above us tonight.

🌍🚨Why can’t we predict earthquakes ?💥

On 26 December 2004, a magnitude 9.2 earthquake struck the western coast northern Indonesia which was followed by a Tsunami that led to heavy casualities in 14 countries! The earthquake and the resulting tsunami took lives of ~ 230,000 people in the affected countries, majorly due to the lack of infrastructure and awareness. Every large earthquake like this refuels the discussion on earthquake prediction, a term that still leaves people confused of what it actually means. There is also a general lack of awareness about questions like - How do earthquakes actually occur? Where do they occur? And Why do some earthquakes become so large while others are barely detectable? In this talk, we will tackle these questions using examples from all over the world and debunk the myth behind earthquake prediction.

About the presenter : Saksham is a 2nd-year PhD student at Institut de Physique de Paris studying geophysics, specifically earthquakes. He has a double masters degree in solid earth sciences and now he is pursuing his academic interests forward. With a very goofy personality, he likes to make lame jokes and annoy people in his free time.

♟️🦠Let’s Play Chess to Understand How the Immune System Fights Against Viruses! 🪰

Abstract - We’ve all lived through the global COVID-19 pandemic, with some of us spending weeks in quarantine staring at the walls. But while you were stuck inside, your immune system was playing a high-stakes game of chess against viruses and was winning. Join this session and let’s play a game of chess to understand the different strategies of the immune defence not just in humans but also in insects (to be specific..the flies that hover over your bananas).

About the presenter - Ananya is a second year PhD student who is currently "two-timing" her research labs in IGBMC and IBMC. Her research is to explore the functions of the enigmatic proteins C19orf12 and Nazo using mammalian cells and drosophila fly cells.

**********************Lineup for February 7th **********************

To celebrate the month of love (in all its form, from Eros to Storge and all the other words that the old greeks had in store for this concept!) we will have a special evening on Saturday 7th.

🔥📚 Let’s Talk About (Healthier) Sex and Fanfiction

Much of how we think about sex as adults is shaped long before we’re sexually active. For many, that education didn’t come from school—but from fanfiction. This talk explores how online fanfiction platforms like AO3 influence ideas about desire, consent, relationships, and sexuality, for better or worse. By examining fanfiction as a cultural and educational space, it opens a conversation about how we learn about sex—and how we might learn it more healthily.

About the presenter : Camille is a student in sexual health at Sorbonne Université and a self-proclaimed fangirl since 2010. When not on Tumblr, Camille can usually be found writing fanfiction or playing D&D.

👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨📱Do we Date as Equals? A Feminist's Perspective on the Dating of Today

Is Having a Boyfriend Embarrassing Now? Why does dating feel so different today? Are we witnessing a “male loneliness epidemic”? And have we truly achieved gender equality in romantic relationships? This talk explores how dating norms have evolved over the decades and what they mean for modern relationships. Drawing on feminist literature and scientific studies, it offers context for current trends—going beyond social media takes—to better understand the frustrations, contradictions, and expectations shaping contemporary dating. This talk is for anyone who wants more to say after thinking or hearing: “Urgh, men.”

About the presenter : As an alternative to doom-scrolling, Victoria reads feminist and philosophical literature. She sometimes goes on dates, is not a fan of Valentine’s Day, but loves love.

🤖❤️‍🔥 AI: Artificial Intimacy

AI companions are entering our emotional lives, offering conversation, empathy, and a sense of connection. This talk explores how these systems fit into a longer history of “fake” or mediated relationships, from fictional characters to parasocial bonds. It examines both the risks and the potential benefits of AI companionship. Ultimately, it asks what these relationships reveal about how we define intimacy in the age of intelligent machines.

About the presenter : Laetitia holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Sorbonne Université. Passionate about knowledge sharing, she has a particular interest in building bridges between technological innovation and the social sciences.
