What is Amtgard?

Amtgard is a live-action roleplaying (LARP) game that blends medieval fantasy, foam combat, and immersive roleplay. Players take on personas such as knights, wizards, barbarians, and archers, all while wielding safe, foam-padded weapons in simulated battles. It’s a community-driven experience focused on creativity, sportsmanship, and fun.

What Happens at a Typical Park Day?

A park day in Amtgard is a weekly gathering—usually held at a local public park—where players come together to fight, roleplay, and enjoy the game. Here’s what you can typically expect:

• Players engage in various combat scenarios using padded weapons and magic abilities.
• Games include team battles, objective-based missions, duels, and monster hunts.
• There’s often a mix of competitive and casual play, catering to all skill levels.

• Many players dress in garb (costumes) that reflect their fantasy persona.
• Some participate in light roleplay, in-character interactions, or ongoing storylines.
• Special quests or story arcs might be run by game organizers to deepen immersion.

• Players choose a class (like Warrior, Scout, Healer, or Wizard) that grants unique abilities.
• Each class plays differently in combat, offering strategic variety and fun experimentation.

• Beyond combat, players engage in arts and sciences—sewing, crafting, heraldry, or bardic performances.
• There may be tournaments, crafting competitions, or demonstrations.
• It’s also a great time to socialize, share tips, and learn from others.

• Attending park days earns you “credits” in your chosen class, helping your character grow in power.
• Exceptional contributions—combat skill, leadership, artistry—may earn you titles or honors.

Whether you're swinging a sword, casting a spell, or telling stories around a (pretend) campfire, Amtgard park days are about fun, friendship, and fantasy. Newcomers are always welcome, and loaner gear is often available—just show up and dive in!
