Brought up in Spain during the later stages of General Franco’s regime and the country’s subsequent transition to democracy, he studied Spanish at the University of Nottingham. He has written widely on military matters and was a Spanish writer for Collins and Oxford University Press. A year ago Sean visited us as he launched his book, he signed books in Drake the Bookshop (https://www.drakethebookshop.co.uk/) and gave a talk in the Chapel (https://www.facebook.com/chapelwhitehousest) 

Sean's fantastic book has now been released in Paperback, thus in conjunction with Drake the Bookshop Sean will return and he will once again be talking about Republican Spaniards who Churchill recruited , this time in St Cuthbert's Church, Billingham. He will tell the story of the recruitment, training and deployment of often battle hardened Spanish Republican soldiers into the British Army in the Second World War. Some of these men made their homes on Teesside after the war. Sean has used wide ranging material from Britain, France and Spain as well as previously unpublished eyewitness and official accounts along with ground breaking new research.

There is no charge for this event, refreshments will be provided by the Friends of St. Cuthbert's who are fighting the closure of the church. You can reserve a seat, a copy of the book and/or some homemade soup by emailing: nevolunteersforliberty@gmail.com
