Together we can celebrate PLAY and REST and the JOY of RESILIENCE by using offcuts from our new, custom-print textile, inspired by Edgeley and Stockport and the building What if? resides in.Whether you book in for our whole day - or a shorter sewing sprint - full tuition will be given and we’ll keep the brews and biscuits in good supply.Full day workshoppers can expect a free communal lunch with fellow sewists and makers. And though we’ll have all the gear, we’d love you to bring a sewing machine if you have one. That way, we can make more beautiful, celebratory things!Our textile banner day will be led by Wendy Roby, a textile artist who has co-designed a bespoke print that celebrates all things Edgeley and will live and be loved in What if?.You’ll be able to learn Wendy’s favourite textile treatments and use recycled textiles to make the banners which will be hung from cast iron banners in our great hall.This event is adults only due to the machines and sharp tools being used throughout the day.Brews and Biscuits included as standardAbout WendyWendy is a Stockport artist who specialises in resourceful forms of printmaking. She makes her own inks from food waste and foraged plants and uses discarded packaging and scrap wood for printing plates. Her favourite craft and art processes take unloved materials and transform them into beautiful objects that celebrate the hand of the maker. She also delivers workshops to the public, focusing on lo-fi forms of printmaking. Her classes are focused on empowering people to make art at home.About The ProjectThrough Draw The Curtains, we’re gathering people, stories, and skills to create something lasting - a locally inspired legacy of warmth and useful beauty within What if? That will hang pride of place in the hall. Together, we’re building a community-led retrofit solution to form a resilience hub for everyone.What if? x Wendy Roby – Community Curtain Project: Draw the CurtainsAt What if?, we are working with local artist and printmaker Wendy Roby to create beautiful, fire-resistant, blackout and thermal curtains for the building’s large windows. Made from fabric produced from recycled plastic bottles, the curtains will help make the space warmer, drier and more energy-efficient, while also enabling Brinksway Cinema Club to properly darken the hall for community curated film screenings. Rather than simply installing functional materials, the project turns this practical need into community-made artwork.
