Barndomsvännerna MyNa och Farah är konstnärsduon Mahoyo, en kreativ plattform där de arbetar som DJs, stylister, kostymdesigners, fotografer och filmskapare. De växte upp tillsammans i Oskarshamn och fann en känsla av tillhörighet i varandra som några av de få icke-vita barnen i sin omgivning.

MyNa är född i Sverige med vietnamesisk-kinesisk bakgrund, medan Farah är född i Somalia, tillbringade delar av sin barndom i Kenya och kom till Sverige som ensamkommande flyktingbarn. MyNa är queer och Farah är muslim. I sin konst utforskar de identitet, motstånd och tillhörighet i ett starkt segregerat Sverige.
 
Filmen följer deras resa till Vietnam och Kenya, där de knyter kontakt med konstnärer och kreativa influenser som format deras arbete. Mot bakgrund av Sveriges växande högerextrema rörelser skildras också en ny generation unga svenskar som använder konst och aktivism för att skapa samhällsförändring.

Childhood friends MyNa and Farah are the creative duo Mahoyo, working across DJing, styling, costume design, photography, and filmmaking. Raised together in Oskarshamn, Sweden, they found belonging in each other as two of the few non-white children in their community.

MyNa was born in Sweden to a Vietnamese-Chinese family, while Farah was born in Somalia, spent part of her childhood in Kenya, and arrived in Sweden as a child refugee. MyNa is queer, and Farah is Muslim. Through their art, they explore questions of identity, resistance, and belonging within Sweden’s highly segregated society. 

This film follows their journey to Vietnam and Kenya, where they connect with artists and creative influences that shape their practice. Against the backdrop of Sweden’s growing far-right movements, it also highlights a new generation of young Swedes using art and activism to drive social change.
