Steve Ackerman, UW-Madison Emeritus Professor, will speak about the Edmund Fitzgerald, the infamous cargo ship that sank into the frigid water of Lake Superior during a violent storm 50 years ago on Nov. 10, 1975. Ackerman will explore the wreck from perspectives of the weather, the ship itself, and the well-known song about the wreck by Gordon Lightfoot.
