✨ DETAILED FULL WALK DESCRIPTION ON OFFER FOR THIS HIKE ?
#########################

The trail begins just past the security entrance at the Banhoek Conservancy in Kylemore. From here, we cross into the conservancy and follow the Game Trail to York Dam — our first tea stop and swimming option of the day. This gentle opening section sets the tone for the adventure ahead, offering a chance to refresh and prepare for the climb into the dramatic mountain terrain.

From York Dam, the trail ascends steadily into Duiwelskloof, where rugged cliffs rise around us and the gorge opens to breathtaking views, including vistas towards Devil’s Peak. This section is especially atmospheric, with towering cliffs and mossy green walls that evoke a “Jurassic Park” feel. Along the way, we encounter rivers, waterfalls, and inviting rock pools. At the first waterfall, we’ll explore the fascinating Grotto Cave, while the gorge also reveals striking views of the formidable Devil’s Tooth. Our lunch break will be in the indigenous forest, beside a tranquil swimming spot — a place widely regarded as a “hiker’s heaven” thanks to its dramatic scenery, pristine forests, and crystal-clear mountain pools.

After lunch, the route continues along the Bethlehem Sky Traverse, immersing us in awe-inspiring scenery. Here, rivers and waterfalls sparkle, especially vibrant after recent rains. This traverse offers expansive views across the Banhoek Valley and creates a sense of walking through a living tapestry of fynbos and mountain streams.

Upon completing the traverse, we head towards Volstruiskloof Waterfall, a dramatic high-altitude attraction featuring a 120-metre double-pitch drop. This waterfall is a highlight of the Banhoek Conservancy, offering grandeur and a refreshing swimming opportunity beneath its cascade. Please note that reaching the waterfall requires crossing a short ledge section with chains for safety, adding a touch of adventure to the experience. After our break at Volstruiskloof, we descend from the Bethlehem Sky Traverse and follow the Dwarsrivier back to the starting point.
