Alireza Khatami is an award-winning Iranian-Canadian writer, director, and producer. Born into the indigenous Khamse tribe in southeast Iran, he was profoundly shaped by the oral storytelling traditions of his heritage. He began his career as an assistant director, working with esteemed filmmakers including two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi. Khatami's debut feature, Oblivion Verses, premiered at the 74th Venice Film Festival, where it won three awards including the Orizzonti Award for Best Screenplay and the FIPRESCI Prize. His second feature, Terrestrial Verses, premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. His third feature, The Things You K*ll, premiered in the World Cinema Competition at Sundance, where it won the Best Director Award, and has been selected by Canada as its official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards.

Join us for a special screening of The Things You K*ll, the latest film by Iranian-Canadian, filmmaker Alireza Khatami, followed by an engaging Q&A session where you’ll have the chance to ask your questions directly to the director. This in-person event will take place at Oshman Hall, McMurtry Building, and is presented in collaboration with Stanford's Iranian Studies Department, Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies, and Film and Media Studies Department.
