- **Event Description**: Overview: These Stamford Village theater workshops are designed for community residents of all ages to explore live performance skills including voice, movement, and script interpretation. In eight weeks, students will learn a series of vocal and physical warm-ups and theater games, a variety of acting and writing exercises, as well as perform short scenes for their families and peers. The advantage of having simultaneous youth and adult workshops in the same building is that it allows parents to participate and learn while their children are involved in activities tailored to their abilities. Parents and children can both relax and then share their unique experiences after class and at the final showcase.

Dates: Tuesdays, 5:30-7:00pm - September 30, 7, 14, 21, 28 November 4, 11, 18

Location: Stamford First Presbyterian Church  - 96 Main St, Stamford, NY 12167 

Supplies: Print materials such as scripts, blank paper for writing/drawing, and extra pens/pencils. Students should wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in, and able to sit on the floor in.

Age Range: Youth workshops - 7-13, Adult workshops - 14+

Instructors:

Marisa Caruso is a multi-hyphenate theater professional whose work with established theater companies and original independent projects alternately places her in the titles of educator, producer, performer, manager, director and/or writer. Marisa has served as the Managing Director of the avant-garde theater company, Torn Space Theater since 2016 producing reimagined classics and large-scale site-specific works in Buffalo, NY. Now based in the Catskills region, Marisa continues to provide administrative support to Torn Space while branching out into the development of original works and new project collaborations, notably with multi-disciplinary companies such as The Party Theater, Neon Caviar, and lbs/sq” performance. Marisa has also performed in dozens of productions throughout the Western New York region and beyond, including the Irish Classical Theatre, Road Less Traveled Productions, Theatre of Youth and Lancaster Opera House, and more recently transitioning to commercial and independent film work. She is an improviser and a co-founder, performer and writer for the sketch comedy group GIMLICK. BA Theater &amp; Arts Administration, SUNY Fredonia.

Kristin McCalley is an actor, director, producer and devising-artist, with over a decade of experience in both Nashville and New York City. McCalley holds a BFA in Theatre from Belmont University and has worked with companies such as Nashville Children’s Theatre, Blackbird Theatre, Playhouse Nashville, Actor’s Bridge, Spaghetti Theatre, The Verge, and her own production company, The Party. McCalley has also worked with the Ingram New Works Festival as an actor and producer, a new play development program hosting playwrights such as Sarah Ruhl, Donald Margulies, Christopher Durang, and David Auburn. Her most recent directorial work includes the Nashville premiere of the Pulitzer prize-winning play “Ironbound” by Martyna Majok (Nashville Story Garden), “Airswimming” by Charlotte Jones (The Party), and a unique site-specific immersive production “The Horror [is the Patriarchy]” (The Mutual Aid Society). In 2018, McCalley produced an ensemble-devised production of Charles Mee’s “Big Love” (The Party), which Jeff Ellis at Broadway World called, “the most talked about production of 2018 to date. Without danger of fulsome exaggeration, one of the most provocative shows you’re likely to see this year in Nashville…” McCalley’s previous roles as an actor have included “Big Love” (Lydia), “Twilight Of The Gods” (Sarah), “Rumors” (Chris Gorman), “The Nina Variations” (Nina), “Slasher” (Hildy), “Nerve” (Susan), “Devil Sedan” (Maggie Thaxton), “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” (Ophelia), “Eurydice” (Eurydice), “The Outsiders” (Sandy), and many others. Her film roles have included appearances on Nashville, Local Air, Take It All the Way and Mark of Satan.
