Originating in the northeastern United States, hooked rugs are a truly American folk art. Traditionally, these primitive rugs were both practical and decorative, and made with materials already on hand, such as burlap potato sacks and fabric scraps. 

Teaching artist Annie Hayes celebrates the playful designs of primitive rugs, which allow the maker freedom in developing their own unique design. In this five-day workshop meeting every Wednesday evening in October, Annie will show participants how to develop their own design from photos, drawings or other folk art and make their design into a functional piece of rug art.
