Make a Ceramic Totem- 3 hours, 6 days- Special schedule!

Class Schedule: Due to holidays and travel this class has a special schedule. Please only register if you are able to attend every meeting.
Class will begin on Thursday, Nov 13 and meet 6pm -8:30pm
Subsequent days include:
Thursday Nov 2o AND Friday Nov 21 from 6pm – 8:30pm
Friday Nov 28 from 6pm – 8:30pm
Thursday Dec 4th AND Friday Dec 5th from 6pm – 8:30pm

Skill Level: Intermediate – students should have basic knowledge of either hand-building or throwing

Tuition: $200 (+ $65 materials fee)

Class Description: In this class, students will explore the art of creating ceramic totems—stacked sculptural forms that combine function, symbolism, and play. Using both wheel-thrown and hand-building techniques, participants will learn how to design and construct modular pieces that interlock, balance, and build into vertical compositions. From carving and surface decoration to exploring themes of storytelling and symbolism, students will gain skills in both form-making and personal expression. Whether you choose to throw symmetrical sections on the wheel or sculpt imaginative shapes by hand, this class will guide you in creating a one-of-a-kind ceramic totem that can be stacked, re-arranged, and displayed as a dynamic work of art. Students should have basic knowledge of the method they would like to work in – either throwing on a potters wheel or hand-building. This is not a class for true ceramic beginners because focus will be on content, good design, sculptural concerns and surfaces, not on learning the basics of clay construction.

Age Limitations: Ages 16 & Up

Supplies Included: Tuition covers 25 lbs of clay, use of studio glazes, all firings, and use of communal tools and equipment.

Additional Supplies: Students should bring their own hand towels, aprons, clay tools, bats, bat pins, and butane torch combo if you intend to work larger.
