Understanding the value and potential of heritage assets in planning

Free CPD course as part of the Historic England ‘Essentials’ training programme.

The concept of ‘heritage significance’ is the foundation for heritage-led regeneration and the sustainable development of the historic environment. This hands-on course introduces a key method for assessing the value of heritage assets and highlights the issues and opportunities that historic significance presents to planners and heritage professionals. The course provides an overview of relevant legislation and policy, and highlights good practice through a series of case studies. 

Courses are for local authority planning officers and early career postgraduate heritage professionals working in the public sector only.

Essentials courses are not open to individuals working in the private sector.

Skills introduced are essential for development managers, strategic planners, heritage managers and those looking to establish a grounding in planning for the historic environment.

Investigating the value and significance of heritage assets typically encountered in development management

Practical exercise using the ‘Heritage Values’ as a way of expressing historic significance

Booking is essential for all courses as places are limited. 

Please note, these training events are provided free of charge by Historic England, and places are at a premium. You can send a replacement or notify us by e mail if you book and then can’t attend. Non-attendance will incur a fee of £150 unless you contact us at least 5 days in advance.
