- **Event Description**: This concert features music inspired by the American West. As one might expect, there is music from film: the classic main title from "Silverado," a send-up of horse opera music from "Blazing Saddles," and a medley of darker, but classic takes on the region by Ennio Morricone drawn from his work on Spaghetti Westerns. However, the program is more than movie fantasies:  Eric Ewazen's "Western Fanfare" and Bramwell Tovey's "Santa Barbara Sonata" were written for resident ensembles at the Music Academy of the West and are the result of first hand experience with the Academy and its surroundings. 

But there's more. We also feature music of Reena Esmail and Alice Gomez, composers who actually live in the American West. Reena Esmail is from Los Angeles. Her work "Joota" explores her Indian heritage but is also an eloquent reminder of the fantastic diversity of our nation generally, and the west in particular. Alice Gomez is based in Texas. Her "Salsa Metalica" is a joyful romp blending Mexican and Tejano music, American Jazz, and indigenous influences.
