On August 13, meet MNHS Press author of Remember the Main: The Gay Bar that Started a Movement in the Northland Meg Gorzycki as she discusses a powerful and little-known story from the Twin Ports. Discover how a generation of LGBTQ Minnesotans found voice, purpose, and belonging at the Main Club in Superior, Wisconsin—a bar that became much more than a nightlife spot. Founded in 1983 by former professor Bob Jansen, the Main Club quickly grew into a lifeline during the early years of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, offering connection, information, and care when it was needed most. While providing opportunities to meet and greet the author and enjoy refreshments as well as conversation with fellow attendees, this event celebrates the history of grassroots activism in Greater Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.

Come early, grab a drink, and settle in—gates open at 6:00 PM with a cash bar and food truck on site. The author talk begins at 6:30 PM, followed by a book signing.

Plus, enjoy free admission and parking at the Minnesota History Center every Thursday from 4:00–8:00 PM.
