B-Sides Arbitrary Residency returns to Barely Bros! This is a 90 minute event of highly-curated obscure songs from across ridiculously diverse genres. It shouldn’t work, except it does. Like, really well. Curated by yours truly, and hosted by yours truly, B-Sides Residency is perfect for a hang, an intellectual bonding, and for spending money on live music and good records.
60 minutes of song. 30 minutes of hang. This time with ice cream!
Featuring:
poem|music: Baritone Justin Spenner (me) and Pianist/Special Guest Jordan Buchholz (not me) perform a set of post-1950 American art song about grief, social interaction, tumultuous relationships, and transcendance.
YEV: YEV is a Ukrainian American artist blending folk rock, modern blues, vintage pop, world music, and the soulful resonance of his heritage. His debut album draws inspiration from his immigrant journey and the resilience of Ukrainian refugees, weaving powerful stories of love, loss, and perseverance. Based in the Twin Cities, YEV’s evocative melodies and dynamic voice create a sound that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Zoe Grigsby: Zoe is a folk singer-songwriter, classical guitarist, and interdisciplinary creative originally from the East Coast, currently based in the Twin Cities. Zoe received her BA in music with an emphasis in classical guitar performance from Macalester College where she discovered a passion for breaking down strict barriers between the classical music canon and other forms of musical expression. She explored this idea in her final capstone project where she curated a recital that combined various elements; solo classical guitar repertoire, original songs with arrangements for guitar, cello, violin and piano, as well as a multimedia storytelling component with poetry, video editing, projection design, and narration.
