- **Event Description**: Led by Stephen Gritt, one of Canada’s senior art conservators, this workshop will introduce participants to the roles and goals of art conservation and restoration and provide some general guidelines for the care and treatment of historic paintings in your collections.  

Stephen will utilize illustrative examples from his professional practice. The session will include an in-situ examination of a late 1600s work by Gerard van Edema of a Newfoundland landscape that he restored for the Royal Ontario Museum: https://therooms.ca/exhibits/newfoundland-imagined-european-visions-1600s

Stephen Gritt is a Senior Art Conservator, the former Director of Conservation and Technical

Research at the National Gallery of Canada, and now in private practice.
