INTERNATIONAL
Subhira Quintet With over thirty years of experience and twenty-one albums to their name, Subhira Quintet is one of Chile’s premier world Jazz bands. Their music fuses Indigenous sounds with experimental and progressive elements, influenced by folk, jazz, and contemporary classical music integral to the southern regions of South America.
NATIONAL & LOCAL
The Alfredo Caxaj Ensemble (London On.) The Alfredo Caxaj Ensemble delivers a sizzling repertoire of contemporary Latin Music, including a wide variety of rhythms including Salsa, Cha Cha, Cumbia, Bolero & Latin Jazz, as well as original compositions. The ensemble has been instrumental in the promotion of Latin American culture in Western Ontario.
Suyai (Chile/London On.) Viviana and Mauricio are the duo behind Suyai, that means ‘hope’, in the language of the Mapuche Peoples. The ensemble now includes various performers offering a versatile sound while highlighting the roots and traditions of South American music, celebrating the sounds of the Andes and Central American plains. Suyai promises to bring rhythm, emotion, and vibrancy to any venue they play.
Nastasia Y (Ukraine/Toronto) Nastasia Y (nas-TA-sya Why) weaves ancient folk songs with modern grooves to create a sound uniquely her own. If you need to assign a genre, perhaps it is Ukrainian Soul. Natasia Y fuses ancestral sounds with lush synths, funky loops and groovy basslines. Her music is fresh yet nostalgic - entangled in the complex emotions of war and love, heartbreak and hope.
Émile Savoie (Local) Émile Savoie is a composer and multi-instrumentalist. He studied composition at the University of Sherbrooke and collaborative performance at the Wilfrid Laurier University. His compositions have been published and performed by multiple ensembles across Canada.
Duende (local) Duende brings the passion and emotion of Nuevo Flamenco to new audiences, offering them a journey through flamenco, Gipsy Kings, timeless classics, and original compositions by renowned award-winning K-W guitarist, Juneyt. Duende is a six-person collective of Canada's top musicians. This is a performance not to be missed!
CalúJules (local) is a partnership between dancer-singer, Claudia Aguirre (a.k.a. Calú) and flamenco guitarist, Julian Berg. Together, they teach flamenco in Waterloo and the north-east suburbs of Toronto. They are passionate about community-building and arts education, having led workshops for organizations such as Wheeldance Canada and the VIVA Youth Singers Choir. They are avid contributors to Canada’s growing flamenco scene. CalúJules perform shows, teach, accompany guest artists, and have collaborated with some of Canada’s finest, including Compañia Carmen Romero and Maria Serrano’s Flamenco Dance Academy.
