“SILENT FILM NIGHT” (1900S, 1910S, & 1920S)

_______________________

Take a step back into the earliest era of cinema with Silent Film Night. The lineup will include a short from the 1900s (“Fantasmagorie”) and a short from the 1910s (“Suspense”) but the centerpiece of the evening will be a screening of “The General” from 1926. In “The General,” the legendary Buster Keaton stars as an engineer who, after being turned down for service in the early stages of a war, springs into action in an effort to save the two things most precious to him; His lady fare Annabelle Lee and his prized locomotive. What could possibly go wrong? Noted for Keaton’s acting chops and brilliant stunt work, “The General” (which is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary) is considered one of the most influential films of the silent film era. Having an opportunity to experience it on the big screen is a rare one indeed. So be sure to bring the entire family out to a classic of yesteryear that Roger Ebert praises for “Its technical perfection, innovative gags, and Keaton’s signature calm performance amid all the chaos.” Adding to the magic of the evening, will be live piano accompaniment by the undeniably gifted Matt Szymanski.

Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our guest speaker for Silent Film Night is legendary local cinephile and Red Carpet Cinema co-founder, Jason Jackson. Mr. Jackson’s grasp of film history is firm and what’s more, he and his organization will host a festival called GEMS: Enjoy the Silents later on in 2026. This, above other things, makes him the perfect guest speaker for this not-to-be-missed evening at the movies.

Be sure to arrive at our screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take the pizza home with you following the movie.

The Electric Film Series is free for the community, but donations are greatly appreciated as every cent raised will go towards covering our 2026 Electric Film Series season. When RSVPing for your FREE Electric Film Series tickets, it will now list a "Name Your Own Price" option. You're welcome to insert $0 so that the tickets are free of charge but again, we hope you'll consider a donation.

Regardless, thank you for your continuous support.
