Ollie and his family are local to Saint Charles Michigan, Mom Kristie was born and raised right in Saint Charles and have ties to many of the surrounding areas. Kristie is very active in her community and its time we try to help one of our own.
Ollie’s journey began on October 20, 2025, when Kristie took him to the doctor for a lump on his neck. They were told it was cell growth on his lymph nodes. Ollie was prescribed antibiotics and asked to return for a follow-up the following Wednesday.
The next day, Kristie was informed that the growth was a lobulated hypoechoic soft tissue mass, and that more information would be provided after consulting with their pediatrician. By this point, Ollie had already received six doses of antibiotics, along with Motrin and Tylenol, but his condition hadn’t improved. The following day, he was prescribed a stronger antibiotic and scheduled for bloodwork.
On October 23, Ollie was taken to the hospital with the possibility of being admitted. However, he was sent home without any significant changes. By this time, poor Ollie was understandably frightened of doctors and needed a little break.
By October 27th, there was still no improvement. Trusting their instincts, Kristie and Andrew decided to take Ollie to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital—a decision that proved to be the right one. While there, Ollie made some great friends and kept everyone smiling with his sense of humor, even when he wasn’t feeling his best. He underwent a biopsy on his lymph nodes to identify the bacteria and help doctors develop an appropriate treatment plan. During that time, there was a lot of “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl” playing in the background.
Fast forward to November 4, when Kristie received the phone call no parent should ever have to get. The doctors confirmed that Ollie had cancer—a rare form known as Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), which affects only about 5 in every 1 million people.
Ollie was scheduled for a PET scan to determine whether the disease had spread elsewhere in his body. He did an amazing job during the scan, but results showed two additional spots that doctors believe are also LCH. To begin treatment, Ollie will need to have port placed in his chest within the next 2–4 weeks, followed by a minimum of one year of chemotherapy.
While this fundraiser cannot cover all the expenses the Salter family will face over the coming year, it will help lighten their financial burden during the holiday season and allow them to focus on what truly matters most—their beautiful, strong, and resilient warrior, Ollie.
