We’ll plan our first real meeting together!I'm based in The Clays/St Austell/Par area, and I'm hoping to set up an informal Classics Book Club, to meet fellow book lovers, starting in January 2026 . Whether you're a lifelong reader or just getting started, a love for great literature and good conversation is all that is required.What to expect?Deep enough to stretch your mind – but light enough to enjoy with a cuppa.We’ll dig into themes, history, and big ideas, but there's no pressure to be an expert. (I'm not!) Expect more than “I liked it” – but less than a university seminar.One evening per month (1.5–2.5 hours)Structure: Most likely reading one classic per month (depending on length). Time for casual chat about bookish things, discussions on themes & characters, and deciding our next read. Reading commitment: approx 30-mins a day.Ideal size: 8–12 friendly folks for lively, thought-provoking discussion.Venue: I'm looking at a number of accessible and affordable spots in Par, St Austell or the Clays, but wish to gauge interest first. Will be in a 20-min drive radius. Cost: Will aim to keep costs as low as possible, but there will be a charge to cover venue hire if we are a bigger group needing a dedicated space. Approx £5-10.Why Join This Preliminary Meeting?This short 40-minute Zoom is all about setting up our group together. We will start properly in January 2026. I've struggled to find an existing club matching this niche - in particular an evening group accessible to those with daytime commitments - so decided to create one instead.Open to all ages and levels. Whether you are an avid reader, or wanting to overcome a lifelong aversion to the classics, so long as you can get to a meeting you're welcome to join.
