Back by popular demand and voted “Best Dance Performance” by the St. Louis Post Dispatch, WALLSTORIES takes the stage in this bravely emotional commemoration recognizing the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. WALLSTORIES choreographed by German choreographer and native Berliner Nejla Yatkin is particularly timely. With talk of walls being built in our own country, MADCO returns to this audience favorite with a new perspective.

WALLSTORIES fixes a lens on the human stories beneath Cold War politics. Yatkin, herself a teenager in 1980s Berlin, explains that while growing up, she “personally felt the threat of imminent conflict…an ever-present issue in conversations, meetings, and demonstrations. ...You were always aware of it as it demarcated freedom from autocracy.” These stories are enhanced by sound scores from Pink Floyd’s album “The Wall”, Bach, and voice recordings of people who lived before, during, and after the wall.

Arrive early to view the exhibit "Long Live Freedom" in the lobby. The photo display, presented by UMSL's German Culture Center, recounts courageous acts by individuals and groups opposed to the Nazi regime. Meet the dancers who brought WALLSTORIES to life in the after the show.

Performance takes place in the Touhill Performing Arts Center's Lee Theater.
