The Squamish V.K. & Rvn Vphill once again form covenant to bring you a Hallowe'en Event for the Ages- VK XXIII: THE WICKER RAN


I'll be posted up in the main Smoke Bluff Parking Lot for 6pm, so feel free to arrive anytime from then onwards! Event starts at 7pm Sharp. Check in with myself and give me your team name and members! I will be giving a brief at 6:50pm.

Incredibly falling on Hallowe'en night itself this year, come joyn us for a romp of frenzy and folly, inspired by the cult-classic British folk-horror film "The Wicker Man" (1973)- viewing is strongly encouraged in preparation for the night & its rites.

As has become tradition, the Hallowe'en VK event operates differently from the regular season, and roughly follows an "Alley Cat" style format. Details are as followed:

-Assemble a team (minimum 3, no max) and check in with me when you arrive. Team costumes encouraged, costumes mandatory!

-At 6pm on the 31st, I will share a link to a Google Doc on the event page. This Document will have a list of the 5 (five) mandatory checkpoints and 2 (two) optional Time Bonus checkpoints, as well as a lofi janky map depicting the ruff location of these checkpoints.

-In the hour before the race, gather as a team and design your own route through the thicket! Any trail and terrain is fair game, you needn't stick to mapped trails or really trails at all if you think you know a sneaky way thru the rhubarb!

-Teams will have 90 MINUTES on course- All teams MUST be back in the Smoke Bluff lot for 8:30pm sharp. Teams that do not return on time will be disqualified, even if you have collected a Time Bonus checkpoint!!! 

-Teams must get a photograph at each checkpoint to confirm they successfully located it. There will be a little icon at each of these points indicating the location, please include this in the photo, along with all your team members!

-Teams may tick off the checkpoints in any order they like, however this year, there is one **SPECIAL RITE CHECKPOINT**: at precisely 7:45pm-the exact meridian of the event-ALL TEAMS MUST MEET AT A TO-BE-REVEALED CHECKPOINT, wherein some ritual/rite/ceremony will be performed, and for which ALL TEAMS MUST NOMINATE ONE MEMBER TO COMPLETE. After teams successfully complete/survive said ritual, they are free to continue on as the see fit.

-There will be one "RVN VPHILL" team-timed segment, an uphill hvck that concludes at one of the mandatory checkpoints. The start and end of the segment will be clearly marked, and the TOTAL time it takes for EVERY team member to complete it will be ADDED to your team's overall time at the end of the course.

Once you finish the checkpoints, please head back to the Smoke Bluffs lot and present your evidence to the volunteers there to confirm your completion!

Run Uphill is kindly hosting a spooky afterparty shindig with spectral tunes, suds galore and where the awards and prizes will be handed out at around 9:15pm! Come cut a little proverbial rug, indulge in some imbibings, share tales tall/long, and celebrate the season in style!
