The Springville Museum of Art is excited to present the amazing Utah Baroque Ensemble on Sunday, April 26th, at 4:30 pm in the Grand Gallery as part of the Sunday Concert Series. This is FREE to the public so invite all of your family and friends!
The Utah Baroque Ensemble is a mixed voice choir, with talented singers from across Utah County and beyond. Under the dedicated leadership of its director, Martha Sargent, a Springville resident who has guided the group for nearly 40 years—the choir has cultivated a rich and enduring musical tradition since its founding in 1987.
Renowned for its expressive and historically informed performances, the choir presents sacred music spanning a wide range of eras, with a particular passion for the Baroque period (1600–1750). At the heart of its repertoire are the masterful works of Johann Sebastian Bach, whose cantatas are a signature feature of nearly every concert—setting this ensemble apart from others in the valley. Alongside these masterpieces, audiences can expect a thoughtful blend of earlier works, seasonal anthems, and beloved folk hymns and spirituals. This concert will have a fine, small string ensemble accompany some of the pieces, and the choir will also feature two pieces composed by the late David Sargent.
Performing primarily during the Christmas and Easter seasons, the choir offers programs that are both reflective and uplifting, inviting listeners into a rich musical experience rooted in tradition and artistry. 
A unique highlight of the choir’s mission is its annual Baroque Scholarship Competition for high school students. This inspiring initiative provides young musicians with the opportunity to participate in a masterclass led by experts in the field, deepening their understanding of Baroque style and performance. Finalists go on to perform in a concert setting, gaining valuable experience and recognition, with the winner receiving a $500 award to support their continued musical studies.
