In the 1950s and ’60s, Springfield’s own Dottie Dillard joined Anita Kerr and the Anita Kerr Quartet as backup singers on a quarter of all Nashville recordings — about 200 songs a year after the group formed in 1956. They helped create the "Nashville Sound," blending country with pop rhythms and themes. 

Please join me for a special listener appreciation class on the oohs and ahhs of backup singing by Dottie and the Anita Kerr Quartet. You will be surprised at how their singing makes your favorite Christmas songs memorable! We will also study a few of their most popular country recordings during the "Nashville Sound" era. 

Even if you think you aren't interested in Christmas music or country music history, this class will take you to a new level of appreciation for backup singers on every recording you hear! 

We will meet in the new Hatch Auditorium in the Greene County Library Center in Springfield on Thursday, December 18 from 7-8 pm. Wear your favorite Christmas sweater!
