This workshop is an Appalachian-style broom-making day where you will leave with a solid foundation in broom-making and a full sweeping set that you've made with your own hands.

Schedule of the Day
We first get comfortable with the materials by making a wrapped-handle hand broom. After a lunch break (bring your lunch or feel free to run and grab something), we will make a cobweb-style broom. From there, you will be confident enough to finish the day with a stitched floor broom using simple tools you can access easily.

This workshop is perfect for beginners who wish to learn broom making and/or intermediate students who would like to deepen their current knowledge of the process. It will also create a solid foundation for future broom-making endeavors in which you can explore different styles or further customize your brooms.

NOTE: Three brooms will be made in one day. This can be intense for some, so keep in mind it is physically demanding on your hands. This may not be the right fit for someone with arthritis or other hand challenges.

About Your Instructor
Danielle Ashner is a Kansas City-based artist. She graduated from KU with a bachelor's degree in fine arts with a minor in art history. She is currently working in broom-making and ceramics. Her work tends to be primarily influenced by an adoration of earth, planets, anthropology, metaphysical themes, and esotericism. This workshop is for adults and is hosted at the Wild Arts Learning Center in Springfield, MO. For locals: just out east Sunshine and around the bend from Turner's Station off J Hwy. The address and directions are emailed upon booking.
